Absolutely wonderful board games shop that feels like a magical emporium and transported me back to being a kid as soon as I stepped inside. A great blend of traditional and modern games and even rare vintage products. I've been many times now to get educational games, chess sets and jigsaws for my children and treated myself to a vintage solitaire set last Christmas. I've also attended one of their Chess and Cheers games nights at the covered market which was great. The staff are generous, knowledge guides to the world of games and Emily the owner is really friendly and helpful. If you love board games check my out in Oxford or online

Ordered a set of go stones and some cotton bags as well as a vinyl matt. All came exactly as expected and they even went to the trouble of putting the stones in the bags which I appreciated. Everything is of a very high quality despite being quite affordable. I would absolutely recommend this shop!

Hoyle's is a lovely shop where you can accidentally lose hours in nostalgia! However the reason for this review is the shop's community spirit and generosity in donating me the lanterns they used for their Christmas display last year- you can perhaps work out from the photo that lots of young people have created an artwork for each spoke- these are their images of the future- you can hopefully see a guide dog, pet goats, and someone living til they are 190! The 2nd pic shows us sharing them with social services and NHS managers. We have 50 artworks so far! I will post a couple more photos when the lanterns are finished. The project has a tight budget and I am really grateful to Emily and all at Hoyle's for being so generous. I understand they would have re-used the lanterns if I hadn't asked for them- in line with their green aims. My whole interaction with them suggests to me that Hoyle's are not only driven by profit but by being members of the community and I really appreciate it.

Great communication and support! Ordered a board game as birthday present. Although the outer box was damaged by the mail service, the game itself arrived in perfect condition thanks to high-quality packaging. They answered all my questions about the game and the postal delays. Thanks so much!

A beautiful shop with lovely staff and very clean display with even vintage boardgames we have not found anywhere else!! I loved the gateway games displayed and great quantity of traditional chest and other games and cards available as well. I felt that it could be even bettered if there are any second hand boardgames available which are a little bit more affordable or a scheme where you can maybe rent them and bring it back since the pricing could be not always affordable for students. Having more small box games displayed could be also lovely since these are more affordable and maybe more inclined to buy on the spot. Lovely place and will love to come back again in the future :)

My fiancee and I visited Hoyle's two years ago and I haven't shut up about their chess sets since! I've always wanted a really good quality chess set and this was the first place I'd seen with such a great selection. We returned this year and I purchased a beautiful chess set, board and draughts set. When I got the set home I realised that one of the pieces was slightly different to the others. I contacted Phil at Hoyle's and he not only sent me the correct piece, but also paid the postage for me to return the other piece. A brilliant, independent business with a massive selection of games to choose from. Would recommend to anyone!
